A 47-year old was arrested on Wednesday, 22 February, in connection with the death of his ex-girlfriend on Saturday, 18 February. According to SAP spokesperson, Captain Thulani Zwane, the suspect was at a Durban hospital at the time of his arrest.

"The suspect confronted the 33-year old woman at her home in the Illovo area. The two allegedly got into a heated argument and later the woman's body was found with five stabs wounds to the chest," Zwane said.
The man was rushed to hospital after allegedly overdosing on an unknown substance, in what is believed to have been a failed suicide bid.

"He was rushed to hospital by family members and after being arrested, was placed under police guard," Zwane added.

Once he is discharged from hospital, he will appear in the Umbumbulu Magistrate Court on a charge of muder.
