Brighton Beach SAP has arrested a suspect (22) in connection with a murder that reportedly took place last week in Clairwood. According to Brighton Beach SAP Communications Officer, Captain Louise Le Roux, the police received a radio report of a stabbing that had taken place in Pine Road, Clairwood. It was alleged that the incident occurred after an argument that reportedly arose between the suspect and the victim, a security guard. "The suspect then later returned and stabbed the victim twice and fled the scene," claimed Le Roux.
She added that the security guard died on the scene.
"Warrant Officer Gordon Mthenjwa Shangase and Constable Thobeka Silindile Shabalala of the Brighton Beach Crime Prevention immediately responded to the complaint," said Le Roux. She explained that intense interviewing of witnesses commenced and within an hour information led them to a shack in Houghton Road, Clairwood. "The perpetrator was found hiding under the bed, and the murder weapon, a knife was recovered," said Le Roux. The suspect was arrested and charged with murder, and remanded to Westville prison.
Le Roux went on to explain that Lt Col Jayson Mc Grey, Brighton Beach Detective Branch Commander, continued questioning witnesses, and further information led him to a house in Pine Road, Clairwood.
"Upon conducting a search of the identified premises, a homemade shotgun was found and 1 x round of ammunition," said Le Roux. The suspect (40) was charged with being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He appeared in the Wentworth court and was granted bail. The suspect will appear in court again on 19 March 2012.
"Lt Col Jayson Mc Grey, Warrant Officer Gordon Mthenjwa Shangase and Constable Thobeka Silindile Shabalala are commended by the SAP Brighton Beach Management for the professional and effective interviewing techniques applied by them, which led to two arrests, recovery of the murder weapon, unlicensed firearm and ammunition," concluded Le Roux. |
