The body of a Johannesburg radio personality was found in a guesthouse in Margate last week. Josie Raath is alleged to have committed suicide. Raath is one of two employees at Radiokansel, a Afrikaans Christian-based radio station, who entered into a suicide pact. However, according to a statement released by the radio station, the second person who is allegedly the radio's Chief Executive Officer's daughter, is said to have withdrawn from the pact.
Reports state that Raath sent a text message stating that he was sorry and done with life. It further stated that no one should call him anymore.
The station's Communications Manager, Marthie Duvenge, stated that Raath had earlier handed in his tender of resignation. He did not cite reasons for his decision to leave the radio station, where he had worked for five years.
Although the station is claiming that they were 'in the dark' about Raath's resignation and subsequent suicide, a media article stated that according to Raath's friends and family, he expressed his unhappiness about dissatisfaction and nepotism at the station. |
