'Dre Boys' lose appeal bid

Duncan Arumugam, Pravandran Perumal and Brandon Govender, had their appeal bid dismissed by the Durban High Court. The three were sentenced to life in prison in December 2010 for murder of Chatsworth businessman, Kelvin Naidoo. Known as the 'Dre Boyz', the trio were sentenced to a total of 30 years for attempted murder, 15 years for being in possession of automatic weapons and 15 years for unlawfully being in possession of semi-automatic weapons.

They were wanted for a spate of drive-by shootings that had taken place in the Chatsworth area, in which four people, including Arumugam's 5-year old son, lost their lives. In one of the shootings, Arumugam's wife, Leanne, was shot in her eye.

The men said that they will submit a petition to the Supreme Court of Appeal but at this stage, the date has not been confirmed.
