Police vehicle stolen One suspect was arrested for stealing an unmarked police vehicle outside a hotel on Snell Parade while the police were enjoying their Christmas party on Friday 12 December around midday.
Quick response from Durban Metro Police Crime Prevention Unit officers, Rishal Jumbo, Sipho Nkwanyana and Lothe led to the recovery of the police vehicle after the suspects collided with a wall at the intersection of Tyzack and Point Road.
Metro Police Suburbs Head Superintendent Anand Maharaj said that the officers were alerted of a white taxi driving recklessly along Snell Parade.
"After a short chase the driver of the taxi lost control and collided with a wall. One suspect jumped off the taxi and fled. Police noticed a hammer and an alan key lying inside the vehicle. They also noticed that the ignition of the van was damaged. Upon further investigations they discovered that the van was a police vehicle. They traced the driver of the police van and alerted him while he was at the party. It had not been reported stolen," said Maharaj.
Police charged the driver for theft of a motor vehicle.
