Sports Minister enjoys a good game of volleyball


"I've come to enjoy a good game."

These were the opening remarks of the MEC for Sport and Recreation, Mr. Amichand Rajbansi when he attended the finals of the African Zone 6 Volleyball Championships at the weekend. Rajbansi expressed appreciation to Volleyball South Africa for hosting many of its major tournaments in KwaZulu-Natal. The African Zone 6 Volleyball Championships were held at Tongaat, north of Durban.

The tournament comprised of top male and female clubs from South Africa as well as the neighboring states of Botswana, Zimbabwe and Lesotho. Tongaat played Botswana in the male's finals. Mr. Rajbansi emphasised that the Department of Sport and Recreation has an excellent working relationship with volleyball controlling body in the country and in the province. "We assist in funding for international and provincial games. We have met half the cost of this tournament," he said.
