Persistent clothing store robbers caught

Five armed robbers who repeatedly targeted a well-known clothing store in Verulam have been arrested.

The robbers, who held up customers and staff at Asmals Clothing Store in Wick Street, Verulam, this week, were arrested by members of Reaction Unit South Africa in Phoenix.
They had robbed the store four times this year.
Reaction officers in Phoenix, Tongaat and Verulam received news of the robbery and were informed that a green Toyota Tazz had been used by the suspects.

One of the unit's vehicles in Phoenix spotted the Tazz with the five suspects and gave chase, cutting the vehicle off before they turned into KwaMashu.

The suspects threw their firearms out as reaction officers approached them.
They were arrested and the car was taken in. A .38 Special Revolver with three live rounds, three Nokia cellphones, one Samsung cellphone and R7857,50 in cash was found.

All suspects were detained at SAPS Verulam.

The firearm and vehicle were checked and it was found that both were licensed.
