SAPS commended after nabbing hijackers during church meeting Verulam SAPS has been commended on a job well done for foiling carjackers who tried to overpower a car guard and break into vehicles parked at the Ottawa Civic Hall recently.
According to Democratic Alliance PR Councillor Maggie Johnson, over 500 people, including herself, attended a church meeting at the hall that evening, leaving more than 106 cars in the parking lot and the surrounding verge.
“Since the parking lot was full, vehicles were also parked along the roadside outside the hall,” said Cllr. Johnson.
“Around 6pm, three African men accosted the car guard employed for the evening. At that hour, the Verulam SAPS were patrolling the area and it was their timely intervention that prevented the parking attendant from being injured and the vehicles broken into,” said Cllr. Johnson, who was very pleased that the Verulam SAPS patrolled the area twice while the meeting was in session.
“There were a number of attacks on religious organisations at the Ottawa Civic Centre. As a member of Alabaster Ointment, I am truly grateful to the policemen who thwarted the criminals. I salute these policemen who dedicate their lives for the safety and security of the community. Keep up the good work, guys!” concluded Cllr. Johnson.
