Stay safe these holidays - SAPS It has been proven that people are less aware of their surroundings during the festive period; they generally drop their guard against crime as they look forward to unwinding at the end of the year.
This is according to the communications officer of SAPS Wentworth, Sergeant Ballan Reddi. Here are some safety hints/precautions to keep in mind these holidays:
Businesses are advised to step up security, especially to and from the bank. Security guards must be alert of all activities around the company.
If a substantially large amount of money is being transported, contact the police to safeguard and transport the money.
Shop owners and businesses should try not to keep large amounts of cash/valuables on the premises; it is advisable to bank the money.
Members of the public should not carry large sums of money after staff parties; statistics show that many robberies occur after staff parties and in most incidents, the victim is usually under the influence of alcohol. It is advisable that companies/businesses use alternate methods to pay their workers such as transferring money via bank accounts.
