Community takes a stand against corrupt club Over 500 people, together with the Inter-Church Social Action Alliance Campaign [ISAAC], protested against the dubious activities of a club in Wentworth said to be fracturing the community last Friday.
Da Flava Revolution nightclub has been closely linked to drugs, shootings, murder and rape. SAPS records show many instances of overcrowding as well as evidence of underage children being allowed patronage. The owner of the club has stated that it is one of his many business ventures.
The rain did not stop the community from marching with a series of powerful placards and banners.
A petition signed by 3000 people and a memorandum stating the views of the community was handed over to Dr. W. A. Dorning, who represented the MEC for Finance and Economic Development. He also stated that he would disseminate the memo together with his report to all concerned authorities and that the locals would have to wait and see the outcome of their efforts.
Chairperson of ISAAC, C. Samaai, said, “We have come together as different churches and their bodies to unite in a single cause. We want the best for our community and this nightclub simply has no place here. Failure by the officials to act will result in our pursuit of a legal case. We will not rest until we are rid of this menace in our community, the destroyer of our homes.”
